The Riverside Middle School has approximately 300 students in grades 6, 7, and 8. The school, built in 1956, is located along the Black River, giving our students access to the river for science activities as well as for water sports, such as kayaking during physical education. We offer our students Technology Education, Family Consumer Science, Visual Arts, Health, Foreign Language Experience, and Physical Education as well as core academic classes. In addition, Band, Chorus, and Spanish may be taken as electives. Our after-school offerings include, but are by no means limited to, Homework Cafe, mountain biking, writing classes, and an art club.
We have three 6-8th grade teams: Sojourn, Explorer, and Quest. Each team has approximately 100 students and 6 core teachers, including a special educator. Students enjoy 60 minutes each of language arts and math each day, as well as 90 minutes of a science or social studies mini-course, chosen by each student, that integrates math and/or reading standards into the class.
Our E-team provides students with visual arts, band, music, Spanish, and physical education.
We are changing our governance structure as a result of restructuring. The Principal's Advisory Council brings parents, teachers, and administrators together to set priorities and monitor progress toward school improvement.
If you have any questions about either program, please do not hesitate to contact either Mrs. Read, Principal, or Mr. Cone, Assist. Principal.
