Home High School

Welcome to SHS!

Welcome to Springfield High School, home of the Cosmos.  SHS is a NEASC accredited public high school.  At this time, we are working hard to implement recommendations from our recent NEASC report.

Additionally, we are working with the Vermont Department of Education to accomplish the required actions for schools identified in corrective action.  This is all very important work, as we strive to improve student performance.

Music Students Honored

Congratulations to the 3 SHS students selected to participate in the Vermont All State Music Festival this year: E.J. Bromley, Erin Chlebak and Allyssa McCutcheon.

SHS Snow Day Protocol

This year (2013-14) we will change our protocol for snow days, with regards to the A-day/B-day rotation.

In the event of a snow day (or other full day cancellation of school), we will no longer "push" the A or B day to the next day, instead we will skip that day.

For example, if we have a snow day on an "A-Day" the next day will still be a "B-Day."

SHS Music Students Honored

Congratulations to our SHS students who have qualified for the Fall District Music Festival:

Lauren Warner, flute
Aunna Parker, flute
Karlee Brown, flute
Matilda Caldwell, clarinet
Alex Warner, clarinet
David Bryant, alto saxophone
Nathan Barbour, trumpet
Erin Chlebak, horn

Two SHS Staff Members Recognized

Thursday, September 26, 2013

Burlington, VT - At the annual meeting of the Vermont School Counselors' Association, SHS counselor Jade Dunn Costello received the 2013 New Counselor of the Year Award.  Both Bob Thibault, SHS Principal, and Julie Lannen, SHS & RMS Special Educator and parent of recent graduate, nominated Jade for the award.  We are very lucky to have counselors of Jade's quality!!

Boston, MA - At the annual meeting of the Massachusetts Society for Medical Research, awards were given to science teachers from around New England (one from each state).  Our Math/Science Instructional Coach, Liz Mirra, received the Vermont award.  This follows up on her national award from 2011 for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.  We are thrilled to have Liz on our staff, working with our teachers on instructional improvements!
