Welcome to SHS!

Welcome to Springfield High School, home of the Cosmos.  SHS is a NEASC accredited public high school.  At this time, we are working hard to implement recommendations from our recent NEASC report.

Additionally, we are working with the Vermont Department of Education to accomplish the required actions for schools identified in corrective action.  This is all very important work, as we strive to improve student performance.

Student Teacher at SHS

This fall, our staff is joined by a student teacher in the special education department. Bruce Patterson will spend his days learning with students in the resource room, regular education classes, and co-teaching as well. Additionally, he will do some work with special education case management, and as such will have access to confidential information. If parents of students on IEP plans have any questions about this arrangement, please do not hesitate to contact Deb O'Shea at the high school.

AYP Update: Graduation Rate Up!

The State Department of Education recently released its list of schools identified as "in need of improvement" in accordance with NCLB.  At the high school level, there are three primary indicators used to determine whether or not a school makes "annual yearly progress."  Standardized test scores on the Fall NECAP tests (Reading & Math) are two of the indicators and the Graduation Rate is the third.

At SHS, for the second year in a row, we have improved our graduation rate such that we are no longer identified for that indicator.  Many thanks go to the hard working teachers, guidance counselors, and other support staff who embraced the idea that we cannot give up on students, and that all students can, and should, earn a diploma.

While we still have work to do in Math and Reading, I am confident that the improvements we have already made plus the ones we are still making, will yield results in student performance in the coming years!

Keep up the good work SHS!!

First Class of Inductees Announced for the Roberta Stokes Smith Springfield High School Hall of Fame

On Friday, Springfield High School inducted its first class of four into the Roberta Stokes Smith Springfield HIgh School Hall of Fame. Thanks to a generous donation from the Smith family and the wonderful craftsmanship of artisan, and Alum, John LaVoie, the lobby of the high school will now have a reminder to students, staff, and the community that great lives were launched at SHS. The first four inductees were Roberta Stokes Smith (Class of 1947), Dr. Paul Putnam (Class of 1948), the Honorable Paul Hudson (Class of 1960), and Dr. Phitsamay Sychitokong Uy (Class of 1991).
